CTA Convenes Tech Giants, Startups To Advance Industry Diversity and Inclusion

Arlington, VA, Oct 3, 2019 – Forty organizations – from major technology companies to startups – are founding members of the Consumer Technology Association’s (CTA)® new Diversity & Inclusion working group – a leadership forum to create greater access and mobility for traditionally underrepresented communities and foster a diverse and inclusive workplace.
“Tech companies thrive on innovation – and for innovation to meet its fullest potential, different voices, backgrounds, genders, ethnicities and perspectives must be blended into the workforce,” said Tiffany Moore, senior vice president, political and industry affairs, CTA. “These founding members of CTA’s working group will lead an important national dialogue to help inform their business practices and share ways to prioritize diversity. Our ultimate goal is to deliver the benefits of a diverse, inclusive workforce – one that features the best and brightest our nation has to offer – to future generations of tech sector workers, companies across the technology industry and America’s global competitiveness.”
A recent CTA study shows women and underrepresented groups together hold only one-third of all tech jobs. To address this challenge, CTA’s working group will create a platform for tech companies to share best practices, recommend solutions to build a diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem and promote STEM learning.
Comprising chief diversity officers and leaders responsible for creating diversity and inclusion programs, the CTA initiative – which is open to all CTA member organizations – will develop short- and long-term goals to shape companies’ strategic initiatives, helping employers to create inclusive cultures where all employees can engage comfortably.
“Although the consumer tech industry has not solved the D&I challenge yet, there is a growing commitment to share what strategies work,” Moore added. “The D&I group will work collectively to identify those practices.”
